A Funny for Mother's Day

Male or Female? You might not have known this, but a lot of non-living objects are actually either male or female. Here are some examples:

FREEZER BAGS are male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.

PHOTOCOPIERS are female, because once turned off it takes a while to warm them up again. They are an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can also wreak havoc if you push the wrong Buttons.

TIRES are male, because they go bald easily and are often over inflated

HOT AIR BALLOONS are a male object, because to get them to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under their butt.

SPONGES are female, because they are soft, squeezable and retain water.

WEB PAGES are female, because they’re constantly being looked at and frequently getting hit on.

TRAINS are definitely male, because they always use the same old lines for picking up people.

EGG TIMERS are female because, over time, all the weight shifts to the bottom.

HAMMERS are male, because in the last 5000 years, they’ve hardly changed at all, and are occasionally handy to have around.

THE REMOTE CONTROL: Female. Ha! You probably thought it would be male, but consider this: It easily gives a man pleasure, he’d be lost without it, and while he doesn’t always know which buttons to push, he just keeps trying

Title: Proud To Be An American

If tomorrow all the things were gone,I’d worked for all my life.

And I had to start again, with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,to be livin here today.

‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free.

And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,next to you and defend her still today.

‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,to the hills of Tennessee.

Across the plains of Texas,From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston, and New York to L.A.

Well there's pride in every American heart, and its time we stand and say.

That I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free.

And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,next to you and defend her still today.

‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,God bless the USA.

And I’m proud to be and American, where at least I know I’m free.

And I wont forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,next to you and defend her still today.

‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,God bless the USA.

Who says a Happy Meal doesn't have good stuff??
.
Amie got a CD in her Happy Meal & we're working on her understanding how to dance and enjoy the music.
.
She's still not into singing anything - but she did start to enjoy being spun around!!

I do so hope she learns to enjoy music & of course dances!!

St. Thomas...the rest of the story & pictures

And now.....The rest of the story.....
.
Dad, Dad - did you hear? I'm going to fly on an airplane and go swim in the Ocean!! It's going to be sooo cool! Oh and this little 4 hour wait in the airport is nothing - after all you got me up at 3:30 this morning is all. I won't be a crab, I promise!

.
Actually she did really well for driving all evening Friday, going to bed late, sleeping restlessly with me & then getting woke up first thing in the morning Saturday to get to O'Hare!
.
BTW - O'Hare was not so much fun! Amie's milk had to be specially tested to make sure it wasn't a bomb!! And since I was the one carrying it through - I had to be tested for bomb residue!
.
But we made it through the airports & the flight in fairly good shape. Upon landing on St. Thomas, it is pretty - you can see all the shades of blues and greens from the air. The promise was there.......
.
So - let's start with the pretties! As on a previous blog - this was the view we saw from our room. This was the back side of the condo, look off our deck -- pretty!
.
This next picture was from the front of our condo. The other side of that brick wall is the "others" (for those that watch lost) - also known as the "hostiles"!! But I digress - still a beautiful site isn't it! The resort was very nicely put together!

This is what we drove - they had very few regular "cars" down there! No wonder since most of the streets were a bit on the, shall we say, "tattered" side!

And for those that may never see it & for us since we will never return - this is what the US Virgin Island license plates look like! Pretty!

Here's a little flavor of what it feels like to drive on the "wrong" side of the road! I do have some video of it - but I don't know how to edit it yet - so when we get a small snippet ready, we'll get it loaded on here! (this was at the resort - the building to our left there is the condo we stayed at).

How I spent my vacation - well at least this was the best part of the vacation....oh yeah and banana daquaris!!!

From my view in the hammock - these are the things I could see! And yes there are very pretty things to see (when you are protected from the hostiles!)
.
This was looking towards the right from my hammock. The swimming beach was just past those chairs.

This is the view back towards the hammock - when I ventured down to the chairs on the beach! It was from this vantage point that I was able to see Darwin & Amie swimming in the ocean!

And this is looking straight back - the blue awning is where we ate almost all of our meals! (And drank daquaris!)

This is looking to the left of the swimming beach

The next several pictures are various Amie pics - these first three are Darwin trying to get her to smell one of the flowers, while we were sitting at one of our favorite tables under the blue awning!

.
And wouldn't you know it - Amie's favorite toy while we were there.....my crutches! She thought they were hers to play all sorts of games with. I especially liked how she would coach me on how I was supposed to use them (she would put the hand rest under her arm & then tell me that is where my arm was supposed to go)!

Amie playing peek around her water glass!

I have no idea what she was doing here - but it's cute!

And I love this look - unfortunately - it's after her little "incident" with the hammock!

When you're bored - anything will do for a toy!

The last full day we were there, we went to the pool & didn't take the camera - there were at least 4 fairly large Iguana's at the pool! I'm totally serious! Two of them were quite agressive.
.
The next morning we went looking for them - this is the only one that we could find to get a picture of - not the biggest one - but big enough!!

So - what did we think of our trip - not much!
.
I have to say with absolute honesty - it was probably the worst trip we've ever taken!
.
The resort was pretty & fairly clean. But the entire atmosphere down there was one of aloofness, and uncaring. For a territory that relies heavily on tourism dollars - they definately do not leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy!!
.
Not to mention the total filth outside of the resorts & the begging that was rampant!
.
So - if we ever go the caribbean again - it will not be to the Virgin Islands & most likely it will be a cruise where the time on the Islands is limited!
.
I suppose though that the whole broken foot may have tainted my opinions somewhat....but I don't think so!!

27th Anniversary

Shania Twain:
.
Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we'd get there someday
.
They said,
"I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong
.
You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're the one I want for life
.
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss good night
.
Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'

Happy Anniversary Darwin - Looks like we made it!

The Real Story

I not going to say who but someone in our group was so jealous that Amie was having so much fun she had a little accident. Amie ended up with a black eye and look at the swelling in the cheek.

I not going to say who but someone in our group does not want us to have fun. I wonder who.

Activities...

Sunday Daddy & Amie had gone to the beach & swam in the Ocean - Monday - they went to the pool! I think that Amie preferred the pool!
.

It had a cool water fall in the pool as well!
.
I sat by the pool & this was the view I had - isn't that peaceful!!
.
After swimming and cleaning up - we went to another resort called "Hidden Cove" & ate on their patio. It was a nice beach & a nice view! Do you see anything on the horizon?
.

How about now - there's one of the cruise ships leaving the port!!
.
A picture of Amie - with the sunset 0ver her shoulder..
.

The sunset was nice from this patio!
.
Amie wanted to take a picture of me - this is what she caught -- not bad HUH!
.
Today - we went to Coral World & then we went down to the beach to let Amie play in the sand. She LOVED it!!
.

Of course - we had the hammock issue - but afterwards - she went to another hammock & played on it by herself!!
.

Ahhh - Now that's the life!!
.

She also had a good time with bubbles tonight!
.

And guess what else.......................Darwin & I have discovered Banana Daquaris!!! Oh my they are GOOD!!
.

Amie's was a virgin Banana Daquari! She loved it as well!!
.
